Untouched pearl of the Dolomites
LUNGIARÜ
THE MOUNTAIN VILLAGE
Our village is a mountain village immersed in a green valley right at the foot of the UNESCO Puez-Odle Natural Park.
Here, time seems to stand still. Thanks to its unspoilt character, its traditions and its culture, Lungiarü was awarded with the "Mountaineering Village - Bergsteigerdörfer" certification. We are proud to be part of the "Mountaineering Villages” Association and to participate in the sustainable development of the Alpine region.
LES VILES
TRADITION STILL ALIVE
A unique feature of Lungiarü are the rural settlements “Viles”. In the Ladin language, “Viles” describes the typical rural settlements of our region. Groups of wooden and stone houses with haylofts are huddled together forming a harmonious and unique composition. Each “Vila” encloses a small square where a fountain and the bread oven are located.
“Les Viles” of Lungiarü are among the most precious cultural pearls of the Val Badia. You can visit all of them on a wonderful hike or run. The round tour is called "Rodla dles Viles” and starts and ends in the centre of Lungiarü.
VAL DI MORINS
THE WATER MILL VALLEY
An Open Air Museum
Lungiarü is the only place in the Dolomites that has a real water mill valley. This mill valley is called “Val di Morins” in the Ladin language. Eight water mills were operated for centuries by farmers of the village. They are the living testimony of the ancient culture and great traditions of our village.
In recent years, they were restored with great care and are fully functional again. You can visit them through a beautiful and easy path.
THE STORY OF OUR LAND
The cuture of Ladinia
Ladinia is the world used to name the five valleys of the Dolomites that speak Ladin, our language. Our valley, Val Badia, is just one of them. In these valleys, ancient traditions have been better preserved than elsewhere. You can see and feel these traditions in agriculture, at the table as well as in our relation with nature and with each other.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the “Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor” in San Martino in Badia and learn more about the people, the culture and the history of our place.
